Trying New Things at Ellerhorst

This fall, we got to try something new with the kids at Ellerhorst Elementary. We’re always looking for schools where the mission feels real, and Ellerhorst’s focus on the "whole child" and building a positive community really stuck with us. At Digital Dreamers, we’re not about adding more homework; we’re about adding more opportunities. The kind where you learn by doing, and where the goal is to walk out feeling a little more capable than when you walked in.

Finding Common Ground

Honestly, it’s not complicated. Ellerhorst wants its students to be well-rounded and confident. We want to give kids hands-on chances to build exactly that. It was a natural fit. We saw a way to bring in activities that complement their school day with a different kind of learning, the kind that happens when you’re focused on making something work or mastering a new physical skill.

What We Tried Together

So, we rolled out a few options. We had a LEGO Robotics group where the real lesson was in troubleshooting. That moment when a robot finally does what you programmed it to do. We ran Gymnastics classes that were less about perfect scores and more about personal achievement, laughter, and learning what your body can do. And we offered Youth Strength & Development, which was really about building a foundation: learning how to move safely, feel strong, and understand that fitness can be fun.
