About the role
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and dependable After-School STEAM Circuits & Maker Lab Instructor to lead hands-on electronics, engineering, invention, and maker-based enrichment classes for students in grades 1-5 in Walnut Creek. In this interactive program, students explore how things work by designing, building, experimenting, testing, troubleshooting, and improving their own creations. Projects may introduce basic electrical circuits, LEDs, switches, batteries, conductive materials, simple machines, engineering design, invention challenges, and DIY maker projects. The goal is to make engineering and electronics approachable, creative, and fun. Students are encouraged to ask questions, experiment with ideas, learn from mistakes, and use problem-solving skills to bring their designs to life. This position is ideal for educators, college students, recent graduates, engineers, makers, STEAM instructors, robotics instructors, computer science students, and science educators who enjoy working with children. Schedule: Weekday afternoons, Fall 2026. Grades 1-5.
What we’re looking for
Experience working with elementary-aged students in grades 1-5. Interest or background in electronics, engineering, physics, design, making, or STEM/STEAM education. Comfortable leading hands-on building and troubleshooting activities. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Reliable, organized, punctual, and professional. Applicant must reside in Walnut Creek or within 20 miles of Walnut Creek.
