About the role
Are you interested in science, nature, gardening, creativity, and working with elementary students? We are seeking a creative, energetic, and dependable Gardening & STEAM Instructor to lead hands-on enrichment classes for students in grades K-5 in Napa. The program combines hands-on gardening, environmental education, science, technology, engineering, art, and math through engaging, age-appropriate activities. Curriculum and program support are provided. Each Tuesday includes paid lesson preparation and setup, a one-hour instructional session, and paid post-class cleanup and update submission. Activities may include planting seeds and caring for garden beds, exploring soil ecosystems, plants, pollinators, weather, and seasonal cycles, hands-on science experiments and engineering challenges, nature-inspired art, and unplugged coding games. Responsibilities: Lead engaging 60-minute Gardening & STEAM classes for elementary students. Guide students through planting, observing, experimenting, and building. Adapt activities for grades K-2 and 3-5. Foster a positive, inclusive, nurturing, and safe classroom. Manage classroom routines, transitions, and hands-on materials. Set up before class and organize materials afterward. Communicate professionally with school staff and submit brief post-class updates. Schedule: Tuesdays, 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. 8 classes. Start date September 15, 2026.
What we’re looking for
Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with elementary-aged children in grades K-5 preferred. Passion for science, nature, gardening, environmental education, or STEM/STEAM. Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. Able to commit consistently to the 8-week schedule starting September 15. Applicant must reside in Napa Valley or within 20 miles of Napa. Preferred: Background in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Horticulture, or a related field. A teaching credential or permit is welcomed but not required.
