About the role
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dependable After-School Art Instructor to lead hands-on sculpture, painting, and mixed media projects for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade in El Cerrito. This is a great opportunity for college students or recent graduates studying Studio Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, Education, Child Development, Visual Arts, Design, or Psychology who enjoy working with young children. The instructor guides students through fun, age-appropriate projects that may include painting, sculpture, papier-mâché, air-dry clay, collage, mixed media, recycled-material art, and creative building. You do not need to be an expert in every medium — we're looking for someone creative, patient, organized, and excited to help young children explore art and express their ideas. Schedule: Weekday afternoons, 2 to 3 hours per week. Kindergarten to 2nd grade.
What we’re looking for
Interest or background in art, sculpture, painting, ceramics, crafts, design, or mixed media. Enjoy working with young children in Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Creative, patient, positive, and dependable. Able to explain projects and instructions clearly. Comfortable leading and supervising a small group. Organized and comfortable managing art supplies and clean-up. Preferred: Study in Studio Art, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, Education, Child Development, or a related field. Experience with children through tutoring, camps, after-school programs, childcare, or mentoring.
