About the role
We are seeking an energetic, encouraging, and dependable Youth Strength & Movement Instructor to lead fun, age-appropriate fitness and movement classes for students in grades 1-5 in El Cerrito. This is a great opportunity for college students or recent graduates studying Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sports Science, Recreation, Athletic Training, Child Development, Education, or Psychology who enjoy working with children. The instructor introduces students to the foundations of strength, coordination, balance, agility, mobility, and healthy movement through games, bodyweight exercises, movement challenges, obstacle courses, partner activities, and team-based fitness activities. This is not a heavy weightlifting program. The focus is on helping elementary-age students develop strong movement fundamentals and a positive relationship with physical activity. Schedule: Weekday afternoons, 2 to 3 hours per week. Grades 1-5.
What we’re looking for
Experience working with elementary-aged children in educational, athletic, or recreational settings. Interest or background in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, coaching, athletic training, or child development. Energetic, encouraging, patient, and dependable. Strong group management and communication skills. Comfortable adapting activities for a range of abilities. Preferred: CPR/First Aid certification.
