About the role
We're looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Chess Instructor to lead a weekly after-school chess program in Pleasant Hill. Students learn chess fundamentals and strategies through interactive lessons, puzzles, practice games, and friendly matches. The program helps students develop strategic thinking, patience, problem-solving skills, confidence, and good sportsmanship. Curriculum and lesson materials are provided. Responsibilities: Lead engaging after-school chess lessons using the provided curriculum. Teach chess fundamentals, rules, strategies, and good sportsmanship. Guide students through puzzles, activities, practice games, and friendly matches. Encourage strategic thinking, patience, confidence, and respectful competition. Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment. Prepare chess sets and instructional materials before each session. Communicate professionally with school staff and program coordinators. Submit a brief after-class update following each session. Schedule: Wednesdays, 1:10 PM to 2:10 PM. Start date September 16, 2026.
What we’re looking for
Experience working with elementary-aged students. Strong knowledge of chess fundamentals and strategy. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Reliable, patient, organized, punctual, and professional. Must maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with the program team. Applicant must reside in Pleasant Hill or within 20 miles of Pleasant Hill.
