About the role
We're seeking an enthusiastic and dependable After-School Chess Instructor to lead engaging chess classes for elementary students in Pleasant Hill. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and helping students develop strategic thinking, patience, and problem-solving skills through the game of chess. Curriculum and lesson plans are provided, allowing you to focus on creating an engaging, supportive, and enjoyable learning experience for every student. Responsibilities: Lead engaging after-school chess classes for elementary students. Teach chess fundamentals, strategies, and good sportsmanship. Guide students through lessons, puzzles, and friendly matches. Encourage critical thinking, patience, confidence, and respectful competition. Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment. Prepare instructional materials before each session. Schedule: Fall 2026 program, August to December.
What we’re looking for
Experience working with elementary-aged students. Strong knowledge of chess fundamentals and strategy. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Reliable, patient, organized, punctual, and professional. Must maintain clear and timely communication with the program team.
