A Summer in Motion: Animation and Robotics at Alamo Y-Kids
At Alamo Y-Kids, our YMCA partnership brought two different kinds of motion into summer enrichment. Digital Dreamers' Stop Motion Studio in June and Rescue Mission Robotics in August connected creative ideas with the small steps needed to make them happen.
A little move makes a big difference
Stop motion starts with something wonderfully simple: take a photograph, move the subject a little, and take another. Played in sequence, those still images become animation. The activity gives planning and patience a visible purpose, with each small adjustment contributing to the action on screen.
Rescue Mission Robotics gave movement a different job. LEGO driving-base robots and a model rescue course framed a Storm Chasers challenge connected to natural hazards. The mission depended on a route: how far to travel, when to turn, and where to stop.
The two programs offered Alamo campers distinct ways to explore sequence and movement. One worked through images; the other through code. Through our partnership with Alamo Y-Kids, we brought both storytelling and a mission into the summer mix, making room for creative work with a clear challenge to solve.
