A Summer of Recipes, Robot Routes, and Discovery at Forest Park Y-Kids
Forest Park Y-Kids in Fremont brought a broad mix of activities into its summer program through our YMCA partnership. Digital Dreamers' lineup included culinary, robotics, yoga, and STEAM, offering different ways to make, move, and explore throughout the season.
First, the kitchen; then, a change of scenery
The Colorful Kitchen brought food preparation to the camp table, with recipe steps turning ingredients into a finished serving. Storm Chasers STEAM shifted the materials and the questions, pairing natural-hazard topics with model-volcano experiments and building activities.
Robotics added two imaginative destinations. Road Trip Robotics used maps and state-marked stops to give robot navigation a geography theme. Star Gazers traded those stops for model stars and constellation layouts. Both put coding to work through distance, turns, and a destination to reach, no suitcase required.
Room to move and explore
Yoga and Play added a movement-focused session to the mix, while August's Eco Explorers introduced an environmental STEAM theme. The breadth of the lineup was part of its appeal: cooking had a place alongside coding, science, and physical activity.
Our work with Forest Park Y-Kids reflects how a summer enrichment partnership can bring several subjects into one camp setting. Each program offered its own materials and approach, keeping the season varied while giving children concrete activities to work through.
