Exploring Ideas in Three Dimensions at Malcolm X Elementary School
At Malcolm X Elementary School in Berkeley, we brought 3D Printing enrichment into the spring lineup. Our Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy program explored how a digital model relates to an object students can examine in three dimensions.
Looking at the whole design
We brought attention to height, width, depth, and how a shape looks from different angles. Connections and proportions offered practical details to consider, including how parts fit and whether a form supports its intended purpose.
Understanding the printing process
We also introduced how printing adds material layer by layer to produce an object. That connection gave purpose to reviewing dimensions and structure before production. Through our partnership with Malcolm X Elementary, we offered an introduction to digital fabrication that brought creative ideas together with the details involved in making them.
