A Little of Everything: Summer Enrichment at Marshall Y-Kids
At Marshall Y-Kids in Castro Valley, our summer partnership with the YMCA brought cooking, science, movement, and robotics into the camp mix. Digital Dreamers' programs gave each subject its own space, from a recipe at the table to a coding challenge on a robot course.
Cooking, building, and a change of pace The Colorful Kitchen opened with food preparation and the steps that bring a serving together. Junior Earth Scientists, connected to our Storm Chasers theme, introduced natural-hazard science through model-volcano materials and construction activities. The shift gave the program a different kind of making: working with physical materials to explore a science topic.
Yoga and Play added time for movement. Star Gazers robotics then supplied a space-themed mission, using LEGO robots to retrieve model stars and position them within constellation layouts. Putting a star in place called for some very down-to-earth thinking about routes, distance, and turns.
Marshall's summer lineup shows the range of experiences a camp partnership can make room for. The kitchen, building activities, movement, and robotics each offered a different entry point into hands-on learning. Together, they gave our work with Marshall Y-Kids a varied summer menu of its own.
