Thoughtful Moves and Hands-On Discoveries at Valhalla Elementary
Our spring partnership with Valhalla Elementary in Pleasant Hill included Chess, STEAM, and Circuits. Through Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy, we offered several ways to look closely at a challenge and decide what to try next.
Looking beyond the next move
In Chess, we emphasized understanding how pieces move, noticing threatened squares, and considering an opponent’s possible response. Looking at the whole board gives each move a wider context and makes planning part of the game.
Checking how things connect
STEAM brought questions about materials and design into hands-on work. Circuits focused on the connections needed for electricity to follow a complete path, giving purpose to checking components and troubleshooting. Across the programs, we made room to test an approach and use the result to guide the next decision.
