About the role

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and dependable After-School Art & Maker Instructor to lead hands-on art and sculpture projects for elementary students in Newark. This is a great opportunity for college students or recent graduates studying Studio Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, Education, Child Development, Visual Arts, Design or Psychology who enjoy working with young children. Projects may include painting, sculpture, papier-mâché, air-dry clay, collage, mixed media, recycled-material art and creative building. You don't need to be an expert in every medium — we're looking for someone creative, patient, organised and excited to help young children explore art. Responsibilities: Lead weekly after-school art classes for elementary students. Teach engaging, age-appropriate sculpture projects. Introduce materials such as air-dry clay, papier-mâché, paint, cardboard and recycled materials. Demonstrate techniques and break projects into simple steps. Encourage creativity, experimentation and self-expression. Support different learning styles and abilities. Create a positive, inclusive, safe classroom. Prepare, distribute and clean up art materials. Communicate with coordinators and school staff. Schedule: Weekday afternoons. Start date September 21, 2026.

What we’re looking for

Interest or background in art, sculpture, painting, ceramics, crafts, design, visual arts or mixed media. Enjoy working with elementary students. Creative, patient, positive and dependable. Able to explain projects clearly. Comfortable leading and supervising a small group. Organised and comfortable managing art supplies and clean-up. Applicant must reside in Newark or within 20 miles of Newark. Preferred: Study in Studio Art, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, Education, Child Development or a related field. Experience with children through tutoring, camps, after-school programs, childcare, mentoring or coaching. A background check is required prior to employment.
