About the role

We're seeking a passionate and dependable Music Instructor to lead engaging after-school music classes for elementary students in Newark. If you love working with young children, enjoy creating joyful musical experiences and have confidence playing musical instruments, this role offers a fun, rewarding way to make an impact. Responsibilities: Deliver weekly, age-appropriate music lessons in a safe and inclusive environment. Introduce foundational musical concepts including rhythm, melody and basic music theory. Demonstrate and lead activities with classroom instruments such as keyboard, ukulele and percussion. Foster creativity, collaboration and self-expression through music. Create a positive classroom culture that supports engagement and participation. Maintain communication with program coordinators and school site staff. Schedule: Weekday afternoons. Start date September 21, 2026.

What we’re looking for

Prior experience teaching music to children, especially at the elementary level. Proficiency in at least one musical instrument. Strong classroom management and communication skills. A passion for music education and inspiring young learners. Reliable and available for the full Fall schedule. Must pass a background check and provide professional references. Applicant must reside in Newark or within 20 miles of Newark. Preferred: Comfortable leading group singing or vocal warm-ups. Knowledge of diverse musical genres and cultural traditions. Familiarity with classroom instruments such as Boomwhackers, Orff instruments and recorders.
