About the role
We're looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Cooking Instructor to lead hands-on after-school cooking classes for elementary students in Oakland. Students will explore basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, food preparation, and new flavors through fun, age-appropriate recipes. You'll help students develop confidence, creativity, teamwork, and practical life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Responsibilities: Lead engaging, hands-on cooking classes for elementary students. Guide students through age-appropriate recipes and food preparation. Teach basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and proper food handling. Encourage creativity, teamwork, confidence, and participation. Prepare and organize ingredients and materials before each class. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized cooking environment. Follow allergy, sanitation, and food safety procedures. Communicate professionally with school staff and program coordinators. Schedule: Fall 2026 Afterschool Program (Aug 24 - Dec 18, 2026).
What we’re looking for
Experience working with elementary-aged children. Comfortable leading hands-on cooking activities. Knowledge of basic kitchen safety, sanitation, and food handling. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Reliable, organized, accountable, and professional. Ability to commit to the assigned Fall 2026 schedule. Preferred: Background in culinary arts, food service, nutrition, hospitality, education, or a related field. Experience teaching cooking classes or working with children in a kitchen environment. Food Handler/ServSafe certification is highly preferred.
