About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable After-School Cooking Teacher to lead fun, hands-on cooking classes for elementary students in Oakland. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and helping them build confidence through simple, age-appropriate recipes. Students will learn basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, teamwork, and creativity in a positive and supportive after-school setting. Responsibilities: Lead engaging, hands-on cooking classes for elementary students. Guide students through simple, age-appropriate recipes and food preparation activities. Teach basic kitchen safety, cleanliness, and safe food handling. Encourage creativity, teamwork, confidence, and participation. Maintain a safe, positive, and organized classroom environment. Prepare and organize ingredients, supplies, and materials before each class. Ensure the teaching area and equipment are properly cleaned after each session. Communicate professionally with school staff and the Digital Dreamers program team. Submit a brief after-class session report following each class. Schedule: Fall 2026 Afterschool Program (Sep 14 - Dec 18, 2026).
What we’re looking for
Experience working with children in an educational, enrichment, camp, or youth development setting is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable leading hands-on cooking activities and possess strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Applicants must successfully pass a background check, complete all required onboarding and school compliance training, be authorized to work in the United States, have reliable transportation to assigned school sites in Oakland, and be available throughout the Fall 2026 program. Clear and timely communication with the team and submission of a brief after-class report following each session are required. A current ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or equivalent food safety certification is required. Preferred: Experience teaching cooking classes or working with children in a kitchen setting. Background in culinary arts, food service, nutrition, hospitality, or education. Experience leading after-school, enrichment, camp, or youth programs. Teaching credential or educational background is a plus.
