From Ingredients to Digital Designs at Lockwood STEAM Academy
At Lockwood STEAM Academy in Oakland, our spring partnership included Culinary and 3D Printing enrichment. Through Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy, we brought together two programs that connected planning with a tangible result.
Following the preparation
In Culinary, we focused on organizing ingredients, measuring, and working through a preparation sequence. Combining components and bringing a dish together gave purpose to each step, including the communication needed when materials and tasks are shared.
Considering the design
3D Printing introduced the relationship between a digital model and an object produced in layers. We brought attention to shape, dimensions, and structure, including how parts connect and whether a form supports its purpose. Together, these programs offered different ways to explore the decisions involved in making something, from food preparation to digital fabrication.
